I Signed Up For This Regimen

Hey Trendsetters, so I’m off and running on my healthy telaxed hair journey where my main goals are health and length retention, I am aiming for  between Shoulder Length or longer if possible by December 2015. Therefore, I have sat down and planned out how I intend to attain these goals and to help stay sane during this journey…..

Hair-care:
Keep scalp and hair clean by washing hair once a week. moisturize hair every other day using Liquid Condition Oil  method or if in box braids or extensions, mix with water in spray bottle and spray onto hair and massage scalp and edges.

example of a breakdown on how I will wash my hair

  • Week 1: pre-shampoo (apply oil treatment to hair before washing) – shampoo – condition
  • Week 2: protein treatment (strengthen) – co-wash (wash hair with conditioner only)
  • Week 3: pre-shampoo – shampoo – condition
  • Week 4: deep condition (moisture) – co-wash

Styling:
During the relaxer stretch my aim is to protect my ends and minimize hair manipulation so as to avoid excessive combing and brushing. I will be wearing my hair in protective styles such as buns, milkmaid braids and box braids as well as cooperate the use of wigs and extensions as these methods are easy and low maintenance.

Heat:
If heat is to used for a straighter look, I will use a heat protector to avoid overheating or burning or opt for roller set air-dried 85% with the hairdryer on cool/low setting. However it won’t be used more than 1-2 times a month.

Trim:
I will trim my hair only when necessary or in the event that split ends occur.

Nutrition:
I will make a conscious effort to eat well and drink 9 cups of 8 oz cups of water a day, along with taking a combination of biotin, folic acid and MSM (MethylSulfonylMethane) to aid with growth.

To find out the amount of water I needed to drink I followed the equation:

My Top 5 Spring/Summer Trends

SS 15 TrendsFor some of my readers I know it’s still freezing outside, but lucky for me I’m in Barbados soaking up the sunshine (sorry didn’t mean to rub it in). However, due to this weather I’m totally excited and looking forward for the fashion for spring/summer 2015 to hit the stores as some stores are already trying to get rid of their winter stock to make room. Based on what was seen on the catwalks across the fashion weeks from the major fashion capitals five main trends were very prominent among the designs. So I decided to give you trendsetters a heads up about what will be hot this season so you’ll know what pieces you should be looking for to add to and what to keep in your wardrobe before you hit the stores and become overwhelmed. Fortunately, some of the trends from spring/summer 2014 will be still fashionable this year, like florals, sheer, crop tops and the 70’s influence. So, without further ado, here is a look at the top 5 spring/summer fashion trends that you’re gonna want to get your hands on in 2015:

Top 5  Spring/Summer Trends

Florals

I know you must be thinking “Florals? For spring?  That’s very groundbreaking.” Well, we all just have to accept that florals are here to stay, just like peanut butter is always affiliated with jelly, it would be awkward to go through the season without this staple.

Florals SS15

Sheer

Designers seemed to be in loved with how they can play with sensuality and still make it sophisticated. This trend seems like it never going away either, come on we must admit that we like the idea that it make us feel like we’re wearing nothing. However, remember to keep it chic, an opt more for sheer panels instead of head to toe all over sheer.

Sheer SS15

Gingham

Notoriously affiliated with tablecloths, this print is in for a comeback that will best any picnic tablecloth. Whether blown up or shrunk down in size it gives a retro and vintage feel.

Bohemian

Put on your flowers headbands because the hippies are coming to town, well, the Retro-Fab ones from the 70’s I mean. The new “boho” look for spring 2015 includes flowing Bohemian inspired prints, trapeze dresses, tie-dyes and lots of colour.

Crop Tops

The “Red Carpet Gown” is getting a run for it’s money as more fashionistas are preferring to pair a crop top with lady-like skirts or well-tailored trousers giving just a subtle peek of midriff skin.

Showing Your Stripes

Stripes

You don’t have to be a zebra or a referee to show your stripes, but you surely can look divine when wearing them.  Stripes always brings a chic, effortless look to an outfit, but a requires a little effort to avoid looking you belong in the jailhouse.  Stripes whether wide or thin, horizontal, vertical or diagonally, can flatter any body shape but it all depends on the paired pieces that help to give the outfit the extra fabulous look. I know that when we think of stripes the nautical navy and white comes to mind, but stripes comes in variety of colours, so  choose the colours that compliment your skin colour best, when creating your look.

Stripes 2

Stripes can be tricky but we all can find the right stripes that make us feel confident and comfortable.  You have to know which part of your body you want to draw attention and which parts you want to divert attention,  your body shape doesn’t matter. So, for all my apple-shaped ladies, the saying that you should stay away from stripes is a mare myth. In the end, it all comes down to where you wear them and how your style your outfit, plus the key to achieve a successful striped look is matching stripes with solid colours.

Tips to remember:

  • Vertical stripes give you a tall appearance.
  • Horizontal stripes enhances or creates the illusion of curves.
  • Diagonal stripes produces a slimming effect.
  • Stripes only along the border of an outfit gives slimming effects.
  • Darker colours are more slimming that lighter colours.
  • Accentuate the waist with a belt to create a waist line and eliminate the wide effect.

Here are some chic, stylish ideas that any body shape can pull off  for the classic stripe look:
