Fashion Fridays _ Overall Impressed

The Overalls Edition

Overalls are everywhere, you can get them in pants or dresses, long or short, even in colors and textiles other than blue denim. This look gives an simple effortless appearance that is not only comfortable but trendy as well. Once a wardrobe staple reserved for farmers during the depression era, hence dubbed the name “farmer browns”; they then later popped up throughout the history of fashion in the 60’s and 70’s with the hippie movement and then with rise of pop icons in the 80’s and 90’s. Nowadays, overalls are apart of modern day street style and when done right, you can look really superb and not like if you just walked off a farm.

Fashion Fridays _ Athleisure Trend

The Active Wear Edition

It’s Fashion Friday Trendsetters and today we’re keeping it cool, calm and collective. I’m going to show you how I rock the Athleisure Trend. It’s a playful fusion of athletic wear and regular fashion pieces, where you can express your personal style and still feel and look all dressed up without looking like your going to the gym. The key is to mix and match textures, patterns and use pops of color all the while keeping your look more leisure than athletic. Hey you can’t go wrong, its comfy and versatile.

Here are a few ensembles:

Fashion Fridays _ Mommy Chic

The Fashionable Mothers Edition

image

Hey my lovely Trendsetters, it’s Fashion Friday and today I’ve written this post in dedication to all the wonderful, fashionably, inclined mothers out there. So without going any further I would like to wish all my Trendsetters that are mothers and those play a mother’s role a Happy Mother’s Day in advance. When we fashionistas think of the word mother, she is the woman that we’ve all asked for styling advice, borrowed clothing, chatted about the latest fashion craze and of course hit the stores for some retail therapy. Then when you become a mother, your realize it’s like an unspoken rule to become second fiddle to your children and now you have to juggle caring for them and still keeping your look together. As a new mother, it’s easy to see how some women become overwhelmed and find themselves in a rut and as the saying goes “let themselves go”; but you have to find a balance and think comfort yet chic while you quickly create your look on your busy schedule. It’s always good to give credit where credit is due, so I tip my hat to all the mothers who manage to always look effortlessly chic when stepping out.

Here are a few of my fashionable mother looks…….

Fashion Fridays _ 1 Shirt, 4 Ways

The Short-Sleeved Denim Edition

image

Hey my Trendsetters, it’s Fashion Friday and today I want to show you the versatility of the short-sleeved denim shirt, by wearing it casual, tied, lose, or smart which can either dress down or up your outfit. The trick to achieving this is simple, be selective when shopping for that key piece that would be the core, that meaning, it could be worn many times and can be successfully paired up with other pieces in your wardrobe. Hey, they’re your clothes after all, so why shouldn’t you wear them more than once.

Now let’s get down to the matter at hand; here’s how I creatively styled and rocked my denim short-sleeved shirt in four different ways……

Casual

Barbados Fashion Week 2012: What I Wore

Fashion is very important, it is life enhancing

and like everything that gives pleasure,

it is worth doing well.

Vivienne Westwood

After attending this year’s fashion week, I was surely not disappointed as I witnessed many fabulous collections over the three runway nights from the various designers. The directors of Unique Productions Worldwide Ltd promised that it would be ‘Fierce, Fabulous & Furious’ and told us the attendees to ‘Dress For It’. Having that in mind I went about creating a wardrobe and strategically styling my looks, so to make a long story short let me just quote Nicki Minaj and say “I did it on em”.

Take a look at my ensembles all styled by myself for BB Fashion Week 2012: (PS. I don’t drop label names, just style)

Taming Wild Cats

women with a wild cat Ladies, we always try to cover up our spots, but then they are some that we can’t help but love to show. Come on, a leopard can’t hide his spots and a cheetah has too many to count. So, it’s time for a spot check! When it comes to leopard and cheetah print, we get the ladies who can it pull off and make everyone else hear the song “I Am Woman Hear Me Roar” in their heads; or, we get the ones who we would like to trap in a box and lock them away forever; not even to be viewed from behind a glass window in a zoo. Also, there are those who stay completely away from these prints all together.

Therefore, here are some tips to help work leopard or cheetah prints into your wardrobe without going over the top or leaving your comfort zone. Just remember that simplicity is best; so, I recommend you to limit one print piece per outfit to keep a chic look. Moreover, its best to match up these prints with solid colours and don’t forget to accessorize. So let’s go ahead and dabble in these waters, you can use the following combos to inspire you or you choose them as they are.

For those who are testing the waters and just want to get your feet a little wet

  • Incorporate a leopard print head tie with a black blazer over a white shirt, blue jeans and black ballet pumps for a little panache.

  • Get a cool relax look with a white t-shirt, blue cropped jeans, white converse (or any other white casual shoe) with cheetah print scarf.

cheetah print scarf

  • Bring to life a white dress with a leopard print belt and brown strappy shoes for an effortless sophisticated look.

Ok, so you’ve kicked your feet around and want to venture more in

  • A well put together ensemble of the famous LBD (little black dress), matched up with a fringe necklace, black heels and a cheetah print clutch.

  • Be a smitten vixen in a short strap-less red dress with cheetah print platform heels and a long necklace.

cheetah platform heels

  • Synch a white button down shirt with blue jeans, leopard print ballet pumps and a black clutch.

Dare to go further, well get yourself up to the neck into to these prints

  • Combine a tan pants with a leopard print shirt and brown platform heels.

  • Highlight a short mustard romper with a cheetah print blazer and tan heels.

  • Add a contemporary twist by playing up a black top with a cheetah print skirt and fuchsia pumps.

  • Complement a cheetah print pants with a blue shirt and brown strapped platforms.

Just want to dive straight in and be va, va, voluptuous

  • A leopard print dress matched with black heels and a fringe necklace.

For every rule there’s always an exception and as always only a few can pull it off. Ladies, give me a drum roll please, mixing and matching prints. In this case it’s more the body shape, the colours and attitude that makes the outfit hot.

So go forth and release that inner wild child, I’m interested in hearing which are your favourite combos or inspirations; so comment and let me know.
