London Fashion Week: Top Trends

Little mouse, little mouse where have you been?

I’ve been to London to visit the Queen.

From the coveted New York Fashion Week, I took a trip over to England for London Fashion Week. While models and fashionistas checked-in at airports, I did my checking-in online to see what the British had to offer. Compared to the other major fashion cities like New York, Milan and Paris, London is not very known for sleek  splendour designs. Therefore  London can be considered the underdog of the major fashion capitals as they tend to take a more comical theatrical approach to fashion.

However that outlook on fashion is changing, as some designers over the last few years have been adding versatility to their collections as the public is looking to buy wearable designs. But there were still those traditional designers and this lead to a mixture of tastes showcased in the collections with strong pop, prim and punk influences. At the end of the week it was evident that even though fashion is evolving in England, the designers stayed true to themselves to their tailored roots despite the present evolution of their  fashion.

This year, during the various shows of London Fashion Week, tradition looks were still holding onto the throne but it was quite clear that there were strong trends going around. There were plenty of  black and white designs going around, designers opted  for the relaxed loose-fit, flowing look and even though there were many  bold prints. However most designs had a  minimalism look approach showing that sometimes less is more. Here are some looks that were trending amongst the designers:

Black

Temperley London, Osman, Heohwan Simulation

Fashion Fringe, Yifang Wan, Emilio de la Morena

White

Julien Macdonald, Temperley London, Willow

Simone Rocha, J Js Lee, Christian Blanken

Loose-fit

Jean-Pierre Braganza, Paul Smith, Jasper Conran

Das, Vivienne Westwood, Maria Grachvogel

Tom Ford, Julien Macdonald, Das

Bold Prints

Maria Grachvogel, Mary Katrantzou, Antoni

Louise Gray, Belle Sauvage, Jean Pierre Braganza

Ekaterina Kukhareva, Michael van der Ham, Peter Pilotto

Traditional Theatricals

John Roca, Giles

Dans la Vie, Phillip Treachy

Meadham Kirchhoff, Hellen Van Rees

The British designers did impress me and are proving they are a force to be reckon with. So I’m signing off from London with love and heading over to Milan.

The Best of 2013 Resort Collections

There have been a great buzz in the air about the 2013 resort collections with a high expectancy of the level of fashion hence, making it the number one topic on the lips of every fashionista. Many of the collections have been getting loads of attention and creating quite a stir within the fashion world. There have been an array of bold colours, prints, feminine silhouettes, demure looks and menswear inspiration, catering for both those who will be in the tropics and for those in winter wonderland.

With such a wide diversity of style offered by the designers, there is without a doubt an appeal for everyone and  that the designers have left us with our tongues wagging. Those of you new to the fashion scene would may wonder what’s the real need of resort collections. Well my friend, it’s the number 1 fashion saver between the fall and spring seasons providing fashionable clothes  during October to February.

Even though I was looking forward to a high level of fashion, I must admit that I was still bowled over by the designs. Such, as to actually pick one designer out of the lot as the best is like me being able to tell you the tally of all the sand on earth, simply impossible. So, I decide to show highlights of some of the best.
