Rebel With A Cause
On the 15th April in the year 1985 when the song “We are the World” by USA for Africa was a hit single; I was literally ready to step forth into the world before the world was ready for me. No pun intended and I’m not kidding, my mom had to be rush into the delivery room when a nurse just happened to realize one of my feet had popped out. Though the wish of a boy wasn’t granted to my mother she was ever determined to name me “Nicholas” right up to the day of my christening, thankfully my grand mom talked and successfully convinced her into giving me a traditional girl name and hence I was named Natalie Eastmond. Always encouraged to do whatever pleased my heart, I grew up surrounded by Fashion and the Arts. At an early age I was either sketching drawings of scenery or making clothes for my dolls or for myself. However, they were only looked upon by me as a mere past time and took second place to the most important thing at that time in my life, sports.
When the time of university had come, I left my beautiful homeland Barbados for Venezuela; a country well-known for producing top finalists in the prestigious Miss World and Miss Universe pageants. There, not only did I have to adapt to a new culture and learn a foreign language quickly, my whole take on life had turned upside down. My main interest was now shifting from sports and had turned completely to the fabulous world of Fashion and Arts. Living for 5 years in Venezuela under the ruling of a radical like the president Hugo Chavez, I experienced a revelation in my personal growth and was no longer timid in my thinking. The radical in me was awaked, ready to fight for change, a change within the fashion and arts arena. This lead to a transformation from an average ‘Jane Doe’ that blended into the crowd to an avid fashionista, full of style, flair and plenty of views regarding Fashion and the Arts.
As a result, my passion for Fashion and the Arts has inspired me to dedicate my blogs to pay homage to the gurus who made great contributions and also to promote the new-comers who breathe breaths of fresh air into Fashion and the Arts. Also, there will be features of tips guides and DIY, as I strongly believe in empowerment through education.
I’m looking forward to sharing with you and in turn, receiving your comments and views. Remember to always do you, because even though you can’t control fashion, you can dictate your own style!
