A diamond in the rough……

Each year thousands of girls seek to break onto the model scene all in the hope of making a mark and becoming memorable face in the industry. Unfortunately, only a few make the cut as fashion scouts, designers and photographers alike are always looking for that one diamond in the rough. Moreover, for many it takes many magazine features and catwalk shows for them to get their big break; and only a few lucky ones reap instant success in short space of time. Having said that, I must say that this week’s feature on the model wall, Danielle Dottin has been able to accomplish so much after she was discovered in a shopping mall back in 2012. I have been privileged to have worked on sets and in shows with her and watch as she has developed, her growth into a professional model is truly evident.

I remembered the first time I laid eyes on Danielle at the 2012 model casting call for BB fashion week, and how the funny story of how she was selected on the spot; well I’ll let her tell you in her words…… “I was first exposed to modeling when I walked the runway for BB fashion week of 2012. Rodney Powers discovered me at Lanterns Mall where the castings for that year was held. I didn’t actually show up to be in the casting as I knew absolutely nothing about the show, I was there having ice cream with my boyfriend and some friends and Rodney saw me and fell in love with my look and asked me if I would be interested in taking part and I eagerly agreed.

From her performance at BB Fashion Week 2012, no one would have know that she was a rookie as she strutted the catwalk like she owned it. Since then there has been no looking back for Danielle, she has been signed to MAC Models Agency and gone on to walk runways regionally and internationally. She has walked at  Dominica’s Fashion Week 2012, LA Fashion Week 2012 and BB Fashion Week 2013, which she has said to have all been fantastic experiences. Danielle has also been featured in look books by designers such as Charles Corvosky Dieujuste from New York, Barbadian designers, Kesia Estwick and Rhea Cummins. She has appeared in American Apparel Magazine, M People Magazine, Pompasette Magazine and Islandista Magazine to name a few. Another great accomplishment in 2013 was when she was featured on the TV series British Ireland Next Top Model in a Tresemme photo shoot along side the contestants.

Here are a few pics from the Kesia Couture Line and the Tresemme feature during BINTM:

The future surely looks bright for Danielle even as she currently juggles her studies at university with her modeling career. I know for sure we can look forward to seeing much more from her in the future.
